Its the last show on the Lowpro BLVD tour, here are the deets.
What to bring:
-drinking water (there is none at house)
-food (easy to prepare, coolers as there is limited fridge space)
-beverages of choice
-sleeping stuff (pad, sleeping bag, pillow, tent/it’s fine to sleep in
vehicles)
-layers (it will probably be very hot in day and cool at night…bring rain
jacket in case)
-sun hat, sun screen, sun protective clothes
-musical instruments, costumes, yoga mats, journals…fun stuff.
-climbing/hiking gear if you want to go explore the park…

Area Education:
-This is a fire sensitive area…be very careful with smoking, etc…we’ll
assess if we can have a fire, spin fire, etc…it may be too dry.
-We have a fragile plumbing system. Do not plan to shower. Please pee
outside…only use the toilet when necessary. It may take a couple of
flushes.
-There are rattlesnakes around the house…be attentive when walking,
careful if barefoot.
-There are some small patches of poison oak around the house. Ask and we
can help identify if you don’t know it.
-We will dance as long as we can…if we deem the music is too loud…we may
not go until dawn to avoid offending neighbors.
-Please check in about where to park when you arrive.
-No shoes in the house, please.

Directions To The Flying Spur 209 379-2826 (Heather)

>From Hwy 120:
Enter Yosemite National Park. Be prepared to pay a $20 entrance fee.
Drive for many miles stuck behind bad drivers moving painfully slow. Pass
signs for Crane Flat. Here Hwy 120 goes left up toward Tuolumne Meadows.
Stay straight, following signs to Yosemite Valley. The distance between
the Tuolumne 120 turn off and the Foresta Road turn off is approximately
5.7 miles. The road winds downhill through dense forest that eventually
opens up. Once it starts to open you can see down to your right an open
plateau that burned in 1990. That is Foresta. The only possible right
turn (besides Foresta Road) in this 5.7 mile stretch is for the “Big
Meadow Overlook”. Keep driving and look for a small brown sign on the
right side of the road that says: “Foresta”. It comes up quickly. If you
come to a tunnel you just missed the Foresta turn.

>From The Start of Foresta Road:
Drop down into Foresta. Stay on the main paved road. As the road flattens
out you come to a fork. It’s dirt to the right and paved to the left.
Stay left on the pavement. Pass a message board. Pass the Foresta
Firehouse on your right. (There’s a payphone at the firehouse if you
can’t find the house and can’t get cell reception) Stay on the main paved
road as it winds past the firehouse and over a small bridge. After the
bridge take your second right. There is an A-frame house on the corner
with a large propane tank in front. There is a sign post with lots of
names on it but the top of the post reads: “Dana Way”. Turn right onto
Dana Way. This is where the road turns to dirt and gets a little rough.
Low clearance vehicles make it fine, just drive slow. Drive up a hill
past some driveways and turn right onto First Street. This comes very
quickly. Follow First Street for a couple minutes as it winds around and
you come to a fork. Go left at the fork and drive up a hill. At the top
of the hill there is a left turn. (It is about a mile from First St to
the turnoff). Take the left turn. There is a pink faded flamingo, a sign
that says: “road closed” and another that reads: “not a rough road”. This
is the worst section of the road so go slow. Follow this road down to the
Flying Spur (about .5 miles). It is the first and only house you come to.
Turn off your stinky car, get out and breathe some fresh mountain air.
Please check in with someone about parking so we can make room for all.

** Note: Foresta is a small community of employees and renters…please
keep this event low profile so we can continue to have them in the
future…Be respectful and quiet on your way in…then we’ll boogie down.

** Also note: HWY 140 is closed due to a rockslide so you cannot access
El Portal from Merced or Mariposa. Tioga Pass should be open.

*** Also, Also: carpooling is recommended, AND, again, please drive slowly
and respectfully through the community of Foresta.

****Also, Also, Also: we’ll be asking for a mandatory donation to pay for
the time and expenses of the musicians. Most likely $15-20. There will be
mixed drinks and keg beer available for purchase(donation).

Welcome aboard the SS Jeremiah…

This Memorial Day weekend, the energy of the Xingolati community will board the SS Jeremiah at Pier 45 in San Francisco. The event will have three unique pieces. Friday evening will be a gathering of the minds. There will be forums for discussion and collaboration. Saturday evening will be a two-part celebration. Beginning with the sunset onboard the SS Jeremiah, we will serve you or’ devours, fine wines, and fabulous ales. The lights of San Francisco will illuminate the ship as we dawn our finest apparel. This will be an ornate affair; a waltz with the past, celebrating what the future will bring. Finally, we will shake loose our corsets and top hats into the early morning with an after party ripe with break beats and circus freaks.

Details

Saturday May 27th complimentary wine and beverage

Saturday evening reads like a fantastic tale filled with gypsies, mariachi schools, arranged marriages, and burlesque troupes. Simultaneously beautiful and intriguing, rich with an exotic flare that goes far and beyond what one would expect. There will be three performance areas with performance art, live music, dj’s and best of all complimentary beer and wine.

Women in corsets and stiletto heels are just part of the equation. Joining us for a stylistic European hopscotch will be DeVotchka. DeVotchKa's blend of gypsy instrumentation (accordion, bouzouki, and violin), mariachi horns, and flamenco guitar is perfectly suited for burlesque's vintage spectacle. With a powerful, quivering tenor and rakish leading-man speaks of the travails of a lovelorn urban castoff. He frequently paints in Southwestern shades with twangy electric guitar or adds brassy Mexicali tones on trumpet. That vivid evocation of place underlies the band's music. Deep in the stoic history of the SS Jeremiah draped in crushed velvet with DeVotchka you will feel transported.
The drummer was raised by Lithuanian polka musicians and studied mariachi horns. The bass player was in a traveling Civil War recreationist band. The singer came from parents - a Sicilian and a gypsy - whose marriage was arranged. He's toured relentlessly with classically trained musicians. The artists' influences are as varied as Eastern folk music, South American music, and North American folk and punk.

Crossing the line~ The Ritual

Performed by the Vau de Vire Society featuring Dr. Madd Vibe (Angelo Moore of Fishbone)
Directed by Mike Gaines….

On this the 27th of May you have been summoned here to our majesty’s ship the SS Jeremiah. On this day, you shall tender us an initiation in the mystic rites of passage of this community.

DJ Logic

DJ Logic has become one of the most in-demand session turntablists on the planet. Doing his own thing with his own style, Logic has a unique place in this new-world DJ order. Says Logic, “every good DJ has his or her thing that makes them unique. I like to think my thing is playing live music with real musicians, being part of a band and being a good listener.”

LOOP!STATION

Robin Coomer and Sam Bass. One woman, one man, one voice, one cello, multiple layered 'loops' hand tooled and shaped into lovely, cascading, provocative orchestral compositions with an immediate soul-rocking palpability.
Shake your Booty
We are happy to have our good friend Mopo, Random Rab and others spinning the booty shaking dance party aboard the SS Jeremiah. More artists to be announced!

The After Party Baby ~ 12 Midnight- 6 am

After you've rocked Prelude Du Xingolati on the battleship, get ready for an all-night dance fest featuring SF's nu school all-stars of dance and electronic music hosted by Lowpro Lounge. This late night rage-a-thon is going to take place in the brand new mega-club TEMPLE, a true fusion of eastern and western styles. Bejeweled with south-east asian art, cutting edge plasma screens, fiber optics, and giant dance floors... it must be seen to be believed. Guiding this multimedia experience will be DJ Dream Team members Laird and Smoove, a second set by DJ Logic, LA superstar edIT, SF breaks heros BLVD, and Lowpro operators J.Tonal, James Christopher and Audio Angel. Also
performing: international sensation Mochipet, B.Smiley, and Majitope.

Friday May 26th 7:00 pm- 11:00 pm

If the people lead, soon they will become leaders.
We are looking to extend the evening beyond panel discussions, breaking out into some larger action-directed collective brainstorming, where people get to hammer on specific questions and unearth ideas they have been sitting on. The vibe will include some down tempo chill ambience and perhaps some improb performance.

Who is Guy Grand...Keynote address: A look at what we have developed, who our community is and where we are going. We will look at the infrastructure of our community, our communication tools and how we can support each other in collaboration.

Forums and breakout sessions: There will be two primary focal points.

Artists, performers and entertainers: How can we be inclusive and support artists? How can we create opportunities for performers with Xingolati and beyond?

Culture and community. Toggling between the creative innovation of the underground and the financial reality of the mainstream; we are looking to create a space that is sustainable. How can we build events through art and entertainment that leave us with more than hangovers and depleted brain cells? We are looking to build events that nourish us and leave us with a new foundation that is a part of the mainstream.

Topics to consider

Artists & Performers

- Keeping track of new and tech innovations
- The role of grant-writing and event sponsorships
- Collaborating with writers/ poets/ copy-writers
- Cross-pollinating beyond the known
- Driving new fashion into the streets

Community

- Architecture~Urban Planning
- Sustainability~ education, collaboration, action
- Roles & Responsibilities
- Online communities
- Volume and Scalability through collaboration
- Positive attributes of the corporate structure

Vibrant wines provided by

The Edna Valley, in San Luis Obispo is home to Baileyana. In 1982, in recognition of its distinctive topography and climate, the eight-mile-long Edna Valley, which runs east and west, was designated an American Viticultural Area. These climatic conditions are ideal for growing concentrated Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, and cooler climate Syrah.

&

A departure from the ordinary, Tangent explores the limitless possibilities of alternative white wines. Offering fresh, crisp and vibrant wines of true varietal character, Tangent is the first California winery to focus solely on alternative white wines. This concept was conceived by John Niven and Michael Blaney, the third grape-growing generation of the Edna Valley Niven family. The wines are made primarily from grapes grown in the cool coastal area of San Luis Obispo. Tangent is meant to convey a commitment to white wines other than the mainstream that is Chardonnay.

Artist Information:

DJ Icey: (System Recordings, Zone Records, Essential Mix, FL): Known as the “King of the Funky Breaks,” Orlando native, DJ Icey, began his spinning career with a residency at the now defunct club, the Edge. Thought to be one of the hardest working DJs in America, Icey’s nonstop touring ethic gave him plenty of time to pioneer funky breaks and launch his remix-producer career. He also made history by convincing the then unknown Chemical Brothers to play their first U.S. show on July 4th, 1993, at the Edge. Sometimes packed with breakdancers, B-boys, Ravers, Club Kids, Suburban and even Inner-city kids, the dance floor is always an eclectic group, brought together by Icey’s unique flavor of breaks.

BLVD: San Francisco’s leading force for live house and breakbeat music is on fire, touring constantly up and down the West Coast. Drummer Dylan McIntosh surrounds himself with an array of acoustic and electronic drums, merging beats and samples to lay down an unwavering rhythmic foundation. Electric guitarist Curtis Sloane adds tight melodic riffs and looping patterns, as well as triggering programmed samples. Bassist Tripp Bains glues the sound together with a deep low end and fluid, pounding attack. This is a band to not miss out on. www.blvdtrio.com

Scratch n Sniff: Bringing the 4-turntable DJ team aesthetic into the breakbeat arena, Scratch n Sniff features British producer SJ Littlewood’s (sleevin.com) beats and Motion Potion’s acapellas, political speeches, instrumental fragments and effected wah-scratches. An attempt to make modern dance-music accessible to fans of funk, hip hop and live music, Scratch n Sniff adds an energy and serendipity rarely seen in the house/breaks arena. The two will celebrate the release of SJ Littlewood and B.Smiley’s new single “Secrets” at this event. www.motionpotion.com

DJ Mancub (Space Cowboys): From out of the SF underground comes the merger of the worlds of breakbeat and mashup, DJ Mancub of the Space Cowboys; who has become a local legend for his ability to add rock and funk to electronic beats. Mancub recently placed #10 in SF on Nitevibe.com’s prestigious “dream team” poll. www.spacecowboys.org

DJ Syd Grys: Syd Gris, promoter / DJ / and psychologist, is the man behind many projects pushing dance music forward in San Francisco and beyond. He founded Opel Productions and the Opulent Temple (at Burning Man) to combine his love of the SF underground vibe and the desire to reach people beyond that underground with a message of social justice, awareness, and a diverse range of kick ass DJ's. As such, he has hosted luminaries like Tiesto, Lee Coombs, Paul Oakenfold, Hybrid, Sandra Collins, Tipper, and many others. Playing a combination of mainly progressive and breaks, his sets are meant to capture and create an emotional moment to fit the occasion. So whether it's opening up for Hybrid or Oakenfold at Burning Man, or sharing a Love Parade float with Hyper and Evil 9, his passion for the scene he's helped foster and the music always translates right to the dance floor.

Mycho Cocoa (the Fringe/Lighter Knights): In his relatively short time as a DJ, Mycho Cocoa has already garnered a superb reputation as a top beat slinger in styles as diverse as Arabic breaks, and soulful house. He is a member of the Fringe Collective and the Lighter Knights. www.lighterknights.com

Victor Vega (the Fringe/Lighter Knights): Like the rest of the Fringe DJ’s Victor’s tastes run the gamut, but the NYC native is best known for his sexy smooth mix of Latin house and breakbeats. www.lighterknights.com

Big Dolla Bill a.k.a. Billete (the Fringe): a scholar of old-school hip-hop and archivist of fresh freakinstein creations from the world of mash-ups,. BDB plays a bumping mix of old and new beats infused with funk, rock, pop and hip-hop. His twisted sense of dance music is freakishly fun. www.fringecamp.com

Details:

Yo yo party people, freaks, cool cats, and family, have we got a party for you. To cap off such a amazing year, we felt like we needed to do something special for y'all on New Years Eve. Lots of sick events going on, so we decided to bring the bad ass afterparty, check it out:

Lowpro Lounge presents THE SF afterparty for New Year's 2006: "Return of the Comeback!" This all-night Major Rager will occur at San Francisco's premier afterparty location (The Gingerbread Warehouse/Danzhouse), with some of the sickest and most skilled performers in the Bay. Of course we've got two fully loaded JK SOUND systems, so you know it's going to bang! We'll kick things off at 1a, and go all night until 7:00a. Expect sick live performances, towering DJ and vocalist skillz, live-pa mashups, sick acoustic fusion, and dope projection magic.

-Highlights to include:

Myka Nyne & Abstract Rude: After completely rocking our Halloween afterparty, we knew we had to get this skilled mic-controller back for another round of vocal acrobatics. This time Myka Nyne will be bringing his boy, Abstract Rude for two helpings of verbal gems in yo ears. Rocking the beats will be our own bad-asses-of-scratch Citizen Ten and Willow the Gaslamp Killer (currently opening for MF Doom). Expect beautiful mayhem.

BLVD: "BLVD is a three-piece house and breaks band. Is it electronic? Is it jam? Whatever it is, it's good, and it's filling San Francisco's dance floors. BLVD builds on top of their tight instrumentals with electronic and vocal samples. Try to stand still, we dare you." -Jambase

-James Christopher + Audio Angel: James Christopher, a longtime resident DJ at Atlanta's D&B weekly "Sessions," co-founded the Lowpro Lounge and has performed with members of Sound Tribe Sector 9, the Santa Cruz Hemp All Stars, and DJ Logic. James Chris can often be found performing with Audio Angel, without question, THE diva of San Francisco drum and bass. She performed with James Christopher in the jungle band Rootscience, and has recorded and performed with Sound Tribe Sector 9 regularly. Sweetly layering her voice with the drum and bass sound you question whether the vocals you are hearing are the sounds of an Angel.

This band of alternative programmers has started a killer internet radio station that bumps the best of SF underground music. What's more, someone is picking up the stream and rebroadcasting the signal in the mission, so see if you can find the frequency.

The website is http://kultradio.org.

Lowpro Lounge has a weekly radio show that you can catch at 5-7p Friday, and other times throughout the week.

Here's our first show archived in MP3 format. It's pretty big (110 MB), but it's two hours long, and has some great music. Download it! >>>
